Choosing The Right ATV Trailer

By Jackie Michaels

There are many options when it comes on choosing ATV trailers on the market, and it's very hard to decide the right one from multiple choices. In this article you will be given a differentiation in many ATV trailers to guide you to decide the right on for your needs. Most of the viewers have misconception about terms trailer, wagon and cart, basically these 3 terms are totally different from each other.

The trailer has a non-steerable front end and explains a unit with one to several axles. Designing of these units is based on towing a vehicle. Rigid front end keeps the unit straight while brakes applied. Therefore, trailer depends on the tow vehicles brake system in most cases.

A cart can be pushed like a wheelbarrow because it has been designed for this purpose. A cart has only one axle. When brakes of tow vehicles are applied, the cart depends on braking system of tow vehicles in most of the cases, during this process cart will remain straight due to its rigid front end.

A wagon is different from a cart because it has a steerable front end. A wagon can be controlled independently behind of the tow vehicle due to its steerable front end. No doubt controlling a wagon behind a tow vehicle is difficult task. The one of major advantage of a wagon other than its own braking system is that, it can be turn to the side when going downhill on steep grades.

It's common perception that ATV trailers are same like as a lawn trailer except its huge size. People who purchased ATV trailers of limited feature faced problem a lot latter on. A professional can work with a solid and heavy duty trailer for their purposes.

To allow a quality ATV trailer run at high speed, it should have roller bearing. In some cases a common problem arises i.e. axle failure in rough terrain. Therefore the axle of ATV trailer should be mounted so that the frame can flex with the axle mount to prevent it from failure in rough terrain. This feature can also be obtained by low pressure within the larger ATV tires to absorb the shock.

In high quality ATV trailers wood, steel and poly. Wood being used as cargo beds to have advantage of being easily replaced in case of damage. Each material has its own benefits like for steel, its easy to paint/ powder - coated and the lower the gauge number. Poly cargo beds have been used in past few years because it has ability to survive in swear weather condition and prevent it from cracking and breaking.

Advantage of poly over wood and steel are many like no rusted and no rotting. Aluminum is also a one of famous material being used for this purpose, however be aware of white-corrosion issues and metal corrosion due to exposure to the weather. This may also happened when steel bolts are in contact with aluminum.
