How To Start Your Own Hip Hop Record Label

What does it take to succeed in the music industry? Music is a billion dollar industry and offers plenty of opportunities for those who have a goal and desire to achieve it. In order to succeed you need passion, talent, know-how and, as with all businesses, a bit of patience.

Today, hip hop industry is still hot and not just in the US, but throughout the world. If hip hop music is your passion, wouldn't it be great to make some serious money from it? Starting you own record label is a dream of many. In this article we will show that this dream is not as impossible as you might think.

At the beginning of your business venture, information, the right information, is going to be the key to success. You should understand the financial and business side of things.

There are many issues that must be addressed when starting your own record label. For example: How to legally setup your business, where to find the talent, how to find a distributor, how to own your masters, how to get a bar code, how to market and sell, how to avoid costly mistakes, and so on.

Many successful artists started their own record labels for the purpose of releasing and promoting their own music. There are quite a few advantages of doing this, one of them is definitely greater freedom.

Let's take a look at some of the most successful hip hop record labels: Jay-z & Dame Dash started Rocafella Records, P Diddy started Bad Boy Records, Dr. Dre. started Aftermath Records, Master P started No Limit Records, Eminem started Shady Records, and so on.

But remember, starting your own hip hop record label is not the same as starting your own successful hip hop record label. There is a big difference, so be prepared.
